Adding professionalism and that “woman’s touch” was the very well applauded inspirational speech delivered by Deputy Consul General Melita Sta. Maria Tomeczek and the reading of the message of the Hon. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg by UHC Senior Vice-President Zenaida E. Santos, MD.
The search was open to all Filipino-American nurses and undertaken by mail, e-mail, fax and press. Most welcome were nominations from Directors of Nursing/Administrators and Chief Executive Officers of hospitals and health care facilities. Benjamin H. Santos, RN-BS/HCM tackled the situation squarely when in his Welcome Address, he stated that the occasion is “in honor of the tireless efforts of the Registered Professional Nurses nationwide, recognizing the invaluable services they provide, that is, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.” It is reason enough to “pay tribute to these nurses who make the ultimate sacrifice on a daily basis to provide expert care during times of disaster and distress.”
Ceremonies were held at the Philippine Consulate Offices, Kalayaan Hall, 556 5th Avenue, NY 10036 at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 10, 2008. Capital One Bank was one of the sponsors of the festivities.
